A Study on Diurnal Variability of Serum Cholesterol

Abstract

|
69 patients were studied with respect to diurnal variability of plasma cholesterol. Mean plasma cholesterol at 7 A.M. was 182.2±74.9, and mean plasma cholesterol at 8 P.M was 179. 1±.70.7 mg/100 ml. No significant diurnal variability of plasma cholesterol was found (p>0. 05). Implication of cholesterol diurnal variation and it´s possible relationship to the diurnal varia ion of cortisol is discussed. The wide fluctuation of the Standard deviation of the morning and evening mean plasma cholesterol also strongly indicates that cholesterol is also episodically secreted (released) like other homon such as cortisol.
